Smudging Listener Mail, Tribal Table Manners & Natives Don’t Take Knees

In the old days before Europeans came to the Americas, when the Indigenous peoples ruled the continent – what were the table manners like for tribes in the Pacific Northwest? Today on the radio podcast, we discuss what mealtimes were like back then. We also read some listener mail from folks who responded to last week’s show on a Native woman in Canada banned from her religious smudging practices. In the second segment, with the Superbowl right around the corner we discover how tribal members feel about the ‘taking a knee’ controversy in the NFL. What we found, is they support protests but not taking a knee during the national anthem. In fact, many Tribal Nations have their own national anthems, called ‘Flag Songs’.
